Metaphysics and Mathematics

Although it is known that metaphysics and science go hand in hand in the field of natural science, I believe that metaphysics and mathematics are also relative to each other. I got the idea from reading a book about different scientists that made contributions to different aspects of science and/or the world. From reading a section of the book, I gained a new perspective on the surrounding relationships between metaphysics and other areas of study/intellect. My explanation on the relationship between metaphysics and mathematics is metaphysics and mathematics both focus on the nature and function of logical reasoning and the basis of functions but the difference is mathematics deals with that concept but only pertaining to numbers and the operations that entail those numbers. Metaphysics applies the concept to find the nature of the world and the nature of being. If I am completely off base with this explanation or if I need to elaborate the explanation please notify me with comments, it would be greatly appreciated. Also please comment on your idea of metaphysics or the relations between different fields that it entails.

Mission

The purpose of this post is to lay out and explain my mission and/or purpose for creating this blog. My purpose for creating this blog was to help propel my mission of spreading knowledge and intellect to the world in an unorthodox manner. I feel that this is why I am here on this earth which is to spread knowledge/intellect. I believe that anyone can spread knowledge with any amount of knowledge they have. I have also created this blog because I wanted to create an outlet in which I could bring out intellectual ideas and (hopefully) create one of the many epicenters of intellectual gathering and thought. I have not clearly defined my purpose for creating this blog and that is why I feel the need to address it in this post.

Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking by Malcolm Gladwell

Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking by Malcolm Gladwell is a book that goes in depth about human thinking and some of its processes. I think it is a very well written book that showcases the mere processing and nature of human thinking and/or thinking in general. The book also uses scenarios and/or real-life examples that help to get the point at hand across. I think this is an excellent book and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in psychology or in the mere nature and/or processes of thinking.

Agriculture

As everyone is aware of, the agriculture of today is way more complex and advanced than the agriculture in the distant past. Through this widely known fact, negative and positive connotations are associated with the state/presence of today's agriculture in comparison to the past form of agriculture. In my own assumption I believe that modern agriculture has more cons than pros. The pros of modern agriculture are it is able to mass produce crops and products in a short amount of time, less pesticide use, and it brings a somewhat efficient standard to agriculture. The cons of modern agriculture are more farmers are put out of work, use of unsanitary and unhealthy practices to grow huge animals in a short amount of time, morals in agriculture are substituted with money, and many other cons.

What Is Success?

The reason why I chose to write/type a post about the meaning of success is because I hear many differing definitions on what is success. For example some people think success deals with material things such as houses, cars, clothes, etc. In my opinion success is the obtainment of one's goals whether small or big. I also believe that material things come along with success or are the benefits of success but are not the real definition of success.

The Power of Effective Writing

The power of effective writing is in itself a powerful force along with knowledge and intellect. Effective writing is simply an effective way of conveying powerful and worthwhile ideas and information. For example my reasons/intentions for creating this blog is to convey (hopefully) effective intellectual ideas/writing that can help spread knowledge/intellect to the world. Effective writing can bring about needed/wanted, fundamental, negative, and positive change. It can also persuade and/or change the views of others.

Ideas?

In this post I am asking if anyone has an idea of an intellectual topic that they would like me to discuss please place an idea in the comment section. I would greatly appreciate it.

Vanishing Cultures

I have previously read part of an article on Seed Magazine's website called In Defense of Difference by Maywa Montenegro and Terry Glavin. The subject matter of the article is about how scientists are trying to protect the world's vanishing languages, cultures, and species. The article points out that the loss of cultures, languages, etc. makes the landscape more "monochromatic, homogenous and monocultural." It also points out that when a language or culture is lost, less knowledge is within/built within the world. It brings the point that when species vanish more than just genetic resources are lost but crucial links in a complicated ecological web. Creatures or Living Organisms?

In the presence of this day I read an article on Seed Magazine.com called The Body Politic by Courtney Humphries which asks the question of whether humans are "organisms or living ecosystems" because of "the deep symbiosis between bacteria and their human hosts." The article goes on to explain the question and find the answer in depth. In my opinion humans are both living ecosystems and organisms. The explanation for my thinking is that humans are living ecosystems because they/we host immense and multiplying organisms that form ecosystems of their own that are beneficial to needs of/as an organism. The Importance/Concept of Thought/Thinking

It is a universal concept and/or fact that thinking is a crucial and significant element in human functioning. Without thought and the brain that facilitates thought, normal human functioning and survival would be non-existent/impossible or minimal. Thinking in my opinion can be defined as an art that carries with a complex process that involves thinking to actually think, to get to the core of what the thought is about and where it stems from. In my opinion thinking is as important as the basic needs in life(food, water ,etc.), thinking is required to figure out how to get the basic needs needed for survival. Thought is a fundamental, complex, and rigorous activity that most humans engage in daily. Although thinking is ignored and taken for granted, it represents an important part of being. If abnormal and/or unhealthy thinking is present it creates an abnormal atmosphere or sense of being.

Psychology

Psychology. What exactly is psychology? My personal definition of psychology is a science in which it focuses on the behavior and reasons behind various behaviors of human beings. Currently, I am reading the book Psychology For Dummies by Adam Cash. One of the interesting points or sections that I read in the book was the section that simplified the metatheories concerning psychology and or human behavior. The simplification of the metathories is called The Biopsychosocial Model. The main function and/or point of the model is to show that" human behavior and mental processes are the products of biological, psychological, and social influences and how these influences interact." The book also states that if any of these three components are missing in an explanation of human behavior and mental processess then the explantion is incomplete. The book explains the role of the body, mind, people, and culture. The role of the body accepts the fact of the human exsistence. The role of the mind is the central placehold for thoughts, feelings, etc. and is "central to understanding human behavior and mental processes." The role of people is people can influence or "shape" the human mind and mental processing.

Scientist For Pay?

Minutes before I wrote this post I read an article on Seed Magazine.com called The State of the Scientist by Steven Shapin. The topic of the article is about the modern image and/or state of the modern scientist. One of the facets of the image of a modern scientist is a scientist that works in the industry for pay. Before the 21st century, many scientists did not work for pay but as a self-financed researcher or scientist. In the case of modern scientists, more scientists work for pay or in the industry. The article also introduced the trend of scientists working for pay and how skeptics see it as sacrificing integrity. In my opinion the trend of scientists for pay is a good and a bad thing. In one respect it can help to create more effective products that significantly help society, on the other hand in a way it does kind of sacrifice the integrity of the scientist in general and also irrelevant findings and/or research is/are funded and wasted and is not put towards significant research and/or findings. Feel free to comment. Link to Article:http://seedmagazine.com/content/article/the_state_of_the_scientist/

What Is Good?

I have previously read the book Philosophy For Dummies by Tom Morris in which I came across the philosophical principle and/or question of what is good. The book stated that a definition is known of what is a good book or a good movie but not of what good is or the nature of good. My definition of good is something that has a purpose and its use concerns that purpose. I also thing good something or someone that is pleasing to all five senses. I think the definition of good can vary depending on a person's experience, environment, perspectives/principles, nature, and ways of thinking. After reading this post of a definition of good comes to mind, comment.

Malcolm X

Yesterday I finished reading the autobiography of Malcolm X as told to and recorded by Alex Haley. During the course of reading the book several changes, inclinations, and ideologies occurred in the life of Malcolm X as presented in the autobiography. For instance, in the middle of the autobiography, Malcolm X is a follower of The Nation of Islam and/or Elijah Muhammad but towards the closing Malcolm X converts to true Islam and also changes the direction of his perceptions and thoughts on racism. As a leader, Malcolm X was more aggressive and direct than many of his fellow leaders. In the autobiography he even mentions the differences between other leaders and himself. The beginning/middle section of the book told the street life of Malcolm X and how in jail is when he turned his life around and became fully aware of the prejudices brought upon the black race and also converted to the "Nation Of Islam" and submitted to the teachings of Elijah Muhammad. I thought in reading the book that Malcolm X presented very interesting points for example while conversing he came to the conclusion that the white race is not inherently racist, but that society imposes and/or influences racist thoughts/actions on the white race. At the beginning of his activism, he believed that all of the white race were racist and he also presented an image of violence opposed to the image of non-violence presented in the Civil Rights Movement. Malcolm X's pilgrimage/trip to Mecca changed his views in terms of it helped him to understand that not all humans of the white race are racist, seeing the hospitality and love between the white race he put a new approach behind his views one of a less aggressive nature. Towards the end of the book, Malcolm X repeatedly mentions the fact of he knew he was going to die, even in his past hustling days. The autobiography is very interesting especially in the middle and ending sections of the book.

Modern Science

Modern Science. The topic of many discussions concerning the current state of society. Modern science in my opinion is a very influential and present force concerning today's society. New advances and discoveries that forever change the function of the world as a whole, the admiration and fear of the general public, and the scrutiny of skeptics are common actions that concern modern science. These forces and others are part of what make modern science a prominent aspect of today's society. In this respect, I am glad that modern science gets the attention it gets because it can help promote science and open up more occupation to more willing applicants.

Scientific Progress

Scientific progress. The two words that assess the current state of science today. In the last few decades and/or century science has progressed from menial findings to findings that change the lives of humanity. As the previous statement is already known, the book Denialism:How Irrational Thinking Hinders Scientific Progress, Harms the Planet, and Threatens Our Lives by Michael Specter analyzes the fear and mistrust put towards science and how that hinders scientific progress. Although I have not read the book, I believe the statement assess the current state of science today. The fear and skepticism towards science and many of its findings hinders the abillity of science to progress and improve the lives of humanity/society today. I belive science to be interesting and the mainstay in today's society. I believe any new finding in science to be amazing, spectacular, and one step towards a better world.

GM Crops/Food

In the fairly recent debate over GM crops/food my stance remains for GM crops/food. The reason for/behind my stance on the issue is because I believe that although food is genetically modified, it is genetically modified for the best. Food and/or crops that are genetically modified are modified for the purposes of to create a crop that can withstand environmental damage and other forms of damage as well to create a easier, healthier, and safer eating experience. In my opinion the creation of GM foods/crops can help and not harm the human eating experience. The existence of GM crops also helps to create accessibility among common foods/crops. Please comment.
